About this design

教科書にも必ず載っている誰もが知る古墳界のスーパースターでありながら、墳丘や盛り土が失われて両袖式横穴式石室の埋葬施設がムキ出しになっている異形の古墳、いや、異形というよりは古墳のコア、心臓部分を惜しげもなく晒している名品中の名品と言えよう。被葬者は蘇我馬子説、蘇我稲目説があるが、何故石舞台と呼ばれるようになったかは明確ではない。狐が女に化けてこの古墳の上で踊ったから、というロマンティックな説もあるがそれは俗説で、昔から現地住民に石蓋（いしぶた）と呼ばれていたのが転訛しただけ、というのが最も有力な説であるようだ。見たまんまと言えば、そうだけど。
