クグレは、リュウキュウイモリ（両生類・サンショウウオ科）をモチーフにしたキャラクターです。
沖縄本島北部や奄美群島にのみ生息する固有種で、夜行性。森の湿地や小川で、昆虫やミミズ、小さな甲殻類を食べて暮らしています。
その体表からは毒を分泌することで知られ、外見は地味ながら、じつは強い毒を隠し持つ「裏のある存在」。
生息地の開発や外来種の影響で個体数は減少傾向にあり、絶滅危惧種に近い準絶滅危惧として扱われています。
クグレは「目立たない生き方こそ、最強のサバイバル」という哲学を掲げる、森のダークヒーロー気取り。
しかし誰からも気づかれず、本人だけが“隠れた主役”だと思っているクセ強キャラです。
