てんとうむし〜天道虫〜
作家：伊坂幸太郎の小説“ マリアビートル”が原作の映画：ブレット・トレインを観て、作中に出てくる主人公“（コードネーム） レディバグ”＝“ 日本訳：てんとう虫”にまつわる逸話に感動し描いた『てんとう虫』
伊坂幸太郎：マリアビートルから引用
『レディバグ、レディビートル、てんとう虫は英語でそう呼ばれている。その、レディとは、マリア様のことだ、と聞いたことがあった。《…略…》マリア様の七つの悲しみを背負って飛んでいく。だから、てんとう虫は、レディビートルと呼ばれる。 七つの悲しみが具体的に何を指すのか、槿（人名）は知らない。が、あの小さな虫が、世の中の悲しみを黒い斑点に置き換え、鮮やかな赤の背中にそっと乗せ、葉や花の突端まで昇っていくのだ、と言われれば、そのような健気さを感じることはできた。てんとう虫はこれより上には行けない、というところまで行くと、覚悟を決めるためなのか、動きを止める。一呼吸を空けた後、赤い外殻をぱかりと開き、伸ばした翅を羽ばたかせ、飛ぶ。見ている者は、その黒い斑点ほどの小ささではあるが、自分の悲しみをその虫が持ち去ってくれた、と思うことができる。』
以下はてんとう虫にまつわる逸話です。
テントウムシの赤い背中はマリア様を表し（マリア様はよく絵画で赤い服を纏っている）、背中の七つの黒い斑点はマリア様の七つの悲しみを意味し、またテントウムシは害虫を食べる益虫であることから、ある日ふっと現れて私たちの悲しみを知らぬ間にぬぐい、そしていつの間にかいなくなっている虫、これはまさにマリア様の使いだ！ありがたやありがたや・・・と逸話が伝わり、レディビートルと呼ばれるようになった、と。
てんとう虫は漢字で書くと“天道虫”と書きます。
天からの導きを示してくれる、或いは、天の使いである虫、天に向かって飛ぶ虫という意味が込められているようです。
原作のマリアビートルと、ハリウッド映画になったブレット・トレインはアレンジが効いているので全く同じではないのですが、映画の中で主人公（コードネーム：レディバグ）が様々な不運とも呼べるアクシデントに見舞われる中で、その不運を背負いながら誰かを幸運に導いたりしているということをとある人に諭されるシーンがあります。
そして、自分のことを不運で不幸だと思ってネガティブなレディバグは、起きたことによる作用の見方が変わり、自分はラッキーだと思うようになっていくという・・・。
私は、この話を知って、てんとう虫がより一層好きになりました。
“ものの見方”というものは、何かに出会うきっかけで変わるものです。
私はこの映画に出逢って幸運です。
映画を観て、そんなことを考えながら、このてんとう虫の絵を描きました。
