杉玉（すぎたま）は杉の葉を集めて丸くしたものです。
It is a ball made of cedar leaves.
これはただの飾りではありません。
This is not just an ornament(decoration).
これは「新しいお酒ができました」ということを表します。
This shows “New sake has been made”.
最初は緑色ですが、だんだんと茶色になります。
At first it’s green, but gradually it turns into brown.
それによって人々は酒の熟成具合を知ることができます。
By that People can tell the age of the sake.
お酒の神様に感謝を示すという意味もあると言われています。
It is said that this shows gratitude to the god of sake.
