当時の商業的な人気を示す、アーサー・ジョン・エルスリーの愛らしい作品。子どもやペットをテーマに楽しい遊びの様子を多く描いたエルスリーは、ユーモアを巧みに取り入れ、見る側の興味を引く物語を作り出しました。
本作は、子犬たちがスタジオを走り回ってしまい、思い通りの位置に立たせるのが難しかったことから、描くのが最も大変な作品であったと言われています。また、子犬たちが這い上がってくるさまざまな姿勢も研究されました。
