敵意渦巻く外界から、アパートに帰ってきた私。
いつもと変わらない小さな玄関を見つめた。
いつまでこんな生活が続くのだろうか、私は何のために働くのだろうか。
ただ玄関に立ったまま、とりとめもなく考え込む。
左手に持ったレジ袋が食い込む、早く部屋に入れとせかしているようだ。
悪かったねと小声でつぶやきながら靴を脱ぎ、玄関のすぐそばにある冷蔵庫に中身を移す。
えりんぎ、とまと、おくら、きゅうり、それと豚肉。
今日は、きのこと豚肉の炒め物にしよう
フライパンをガスの火で熱してから、豚肉を投げ入れる。
じゅうという音に、少しだけ心が浮かぶ。
...しまった、まだえりんぎを切っていなかった。
急いでまな板と包丁をとりだし、えりんぎを真っ二つにする。
そこに現れたのは、笑顔だった。
いつ振りに笑顔を向けられただろうか。
いつも投げかけられるとがった言葉と青い表情。
私が浮かべる石膏のような笑顔だったもの。
えりんぎが私だけに向けた笑顔、存在を許されたような感覚。
ただのきのこ、ただの菌類が私にもう一度生きる希望をくれたのだ。
私は泣きながら、無数の笑顔と少し焦げた豚肉を胃に落としこんだ。
