About this design

ヴァニタスとは「空虚」「むなしさ」を意味するラテン語です。地上の人生の無意味さや、虚栄のはかなさなどと深く結びついています。人生のはかなさというテーマは、中世ヨーロッパの生死感と密接につながる概念であり、死や衰退に対する不吉なもののを表すと同時に、今を込めて生きる強烈な生への意志を省みるきっかけでもあります。

Vanitas is a Latin word meaning "emptiness" or "futility. It is deeply associated with the meaninglessness of earthly life and the transience of vanity. The theme of the transience of life is a concept closely linked to the medieval European sense of life and death, and represents both an ominous but also an opportunity to reflect on the intense will to live life in the present moment.
