About this design

ニコンEM（Nikon EM 、1979年3月海外発売、1980年（昭和55年）3月国内発売）
キャッチフレーズは「リトル・ニコン」。
女性ユーザーもターゲットに入れて小型化と操作の簡略化を重視して設計され、撮影モードは絞り優先AEのみ。
ニコン一眼レフの中でオート露出専用なのはこのカメラと、後年発売されたAPS規格一眼レフのプロネアSだけである。
シャッターユニットはスクエア型のセイコーMFCを採用。
電池消耗時の非常用として、1/90秒のみの機械式シャッターも備えている。
ニコンとしては初のエントリーモデルで、同時期に低廉で小型軽量の交換レンズ「ニコンレンズシリーズE」もリリースされた。
外装デザインはジョルジェット・ジウジアーロにより、ニコンF3と同時になされている。
