上越線 水上駅でスタンバイするSL D51498 (モノクロフォト)

D51 498号機は、昭和15年(1940)に製造され、本州各地で活躍し、昭和47年(1972)に廃車となって上越線後閑駅前で静態保存されておりましたが、その16年後の昭和63年(1988)11月、JR東日本の手で動態復活を遂げました。現在では、SLみなかみとして、上越線高崎～水上間を運行しております。
また1988年には、来日した「オリエントエクスプレス’88」を、東京上野駅から大宮駅まで本務機のEF58 61号機の前に立ち、重連で牽引したことでも有名です。
