About this design

錦絵「三世市川八百蔵の田辺文蔵」のパーカーです。

1794年5月から約10か月ほどの僅かな期間に役者絵・相撲絵など140数点を刊行し、忽然と姿を消した謎の絵師「東洲斎写楽（とうしゅうさいしゃらく）」が残した役者絵のグッズです。

本作品は、三代目市川八百蔵が、実際の仇討事件を脚色した演目「花菖蒲文禄曽我（はなあやめぶんろくそが）」に登場する田辺文蔵を演じたものが描かれています。借金返済の目途が立たずに思い悩む文蔵の姿だといわれています。
