About this design

錦絵「三代目大谷鬼次の江戸兵衛」のトートバッグです。

1794年5月から約10か月ほどの僅かな期間に役者絵・相撲絵など140数点を刊行し、忽然と姿を消した謎の絵師「東洲斎写楽（とうしゅうさいしゃらく）」が残した役者絵のグッズです。

本作品は、三代目大谷鬼次が、演目「恋女房染分手綱（こいにょうぼうそめわけたづな）」の江戸兵衛を演じたものが描かれています。江戸兵衛はこの演目の悪人鷲塚八平次の手下で、市川男女蔵が演じる奴一平の用金を奪おうと襲いかかる様子が描かれています。
