About this design

日本屈指の古墳群、大和(おおやまと)古墳群の盟主的巨大前方後円墳。
築造期は3世紀後半と見られ、箸墓古墳に次ぐ大王の古墳ではないかと考えられている。
墳形は前方後円形で、前方部を南方に向けるが、東西方向の傾斜地（高位は東側）に直角に築造されているため左右非対称形をとる。
いかにも初期形古墳ならではの造形が最高の萌えポイント。規模は箸墓古墳の方が大きいのに、この古墳は近くで見たら箸墓古墳以上の偉容と圧迫感を持っている。グレイトの一言に尽きる古墳である。
