About this design

Haleはハワイ語で家という意味。Home Sweet Homeとは快適でリラックスできる我が家に戻ってきて、ほっとした感じを英語で表すときに使う言葉だ。英語の”Home= ハワイ語のHale”は生活や憩いの場所という意味があり、それは人によってそれぞれだ。そのことをホームレスシェルター（一時緊急避難施設）の子供達との出会いから考えさせられた。ホームとは何か。人はどんなところに住み、どんな生き方をするのだろう。そんなことを考えながら、私は自分に縁があるハワイとホームレスにまつわる作品（デザイン）を制作したいと思った。
観ている人に感じてもらいたいのは、社会問題ももちろんだが、それ以外にも、その中にある可能性である。何故なら私が、ハワイで接したホームレスの子供たちの表情が明るかったからだ。どんな困難でも前向きな姿勢や私がハワイでならった、ハワイに住む人々の精神、他者を理解し、尊重し、そこから生まれる一つの物事にとらわれない考え方「アロハスピリット」が必要ではないだろうか。
