Mucha - Lorenzaccio

サラ・ベルナールは、1834年に発表されたアルフレッド・ド・ミュッセのロマン派悲劇『ロレンツォ・デ・メディチ』で男役を演じている。

16世紀のフィレンツェを舞台に、ロレンツォ・デ・メディチがフィレンツェの暴君アレッサンドロ・デ・メディチを殺すという筋書きで、ミュシャはポスター上部のフィレンツェの紋章を脅かす蛇のようなドラゴンを描いている。ベルナールは正面から描かれ、ポスターの足元にある暴君のドラゴンを刺す短剣に象徴される殺人を考えている。背景は、フィレンツェのビロードを思わせる。

アルフォンス・マリア・ミュシャ（1860年7月24日 - 1939年7月14日）は、チェコ出身の画家、イラストレーター、グラフィックアーティストで、アール・ヌーヴォーの時代にパリに住んでいた。また、挿絵、広告、装飾パネル、デザインなどを手がけ、この時代の最も有名なイメージのひとつとなった。

キャリアの後半、57歳のときに故郷に戻り、1912年から1926年にかけて、世界のすべてのスラブ民族の歴史を描いた『スラブ叙事詩』と呼ばれる20枚の記念碑的キャンバスのシリーズに没頭した。1928年、チェコスロバキア独立10周年記念に、チェコ国民にこのシリーズを贈呈した。彼はこのシリーズを自分の最も重要な作品と位置づけていた。
