About this design

幕末から明治前期にかけて活動した浮世絵師月岡芳年の『新形三十六怪撰』から三井寺頼豪阿闍梨悪念鼠と変ずる図をセレクト！

修法の効験で知られた頼豪は「皇子が生まれたら望みは何でも叶える」と、白河天皇から皇子誕生の祈祷を命じられた。
祈祷の験あってか皇子が誕生するも約束を反故にされた頼豪は、怨念を抱きながら断食をして命を絶った。
死後、怨霊となった頼豪は、鉄鼠と化して延暦寺の経典を食い破り、自らの祈祷により生まれた幼い皇子を祟りによって呪い殺したとされる。
