About this design
長宗我部 元親（ちょうそかべ もとちか）は、戦国時代から安土桃山時代にかけての土佐国の戦国大名。長宗我部氏第21代当主。位階は従五位下で死後に正五位[3]、昭和3年（1928年）には正三位が贈られた。
長宗我部国親の長男で、母は美濃斎藤氏の娘。正室は石谷光政の娘で斎藤利三の異父妹。
土佐国の守護職を兼ねる細川京兆家当主で管領の細川晴元より、京兆家の通字である「元」の一字を受けたため、かつて同じく細川氏より「元」の字を受けた15代当主・長宗我部元親と同名を名乗ることとなった。
土佐の国人から戦国大名に成長し、阿波・讃岐の三好氏、伊予の西園寺氏・河野氏らと戦い四国に勢力を広げる。しかし、その後に織田信長の手が差し迫り、信長の後継となった豊臣秀吉に敗れ土佐一国に減知となった。豊臣政権時、戸次川の戦いで愛息・信親を亡くすと生活は荒れ、家中を混乱させたままこの世を去った。
