About this design

その昔ハブの咬傷被害が盛んだった時代
1954年、県によるハブの買い上げ事業が始まり、1976年には「ハブ撲滅推進協議会」が設立されます
ハブ撲滅への動きがより一層高まりましたが、その後の様々な調査の結果、固有種の個体数を減らしすぎる事による生態系への悪影響を危惧した協議会は2002年に協議会の名称を「撲滅から対策（ハブ対策推進協議会)」へと改名し、「ハブとの共生」を第一に考える方針へと変わりました
住居や畑など人々の生活圏内に出没したハブは危険ですので捕獲または駆除をした方が良いのですが、ひと気のない山奥へ侵入してまでの乱獲はやめましょうという事です
ハブ屋のお仕事は焼却処分されるハブを買取って再利用する事から始まりました。自分達の手で加工できる量のみのハブを扱う事はこの島の危険生物と共生していく上での大切な手立てだと考えています
ハブと奄美の人々との棲み分けの工夫や共生への道はこれからも続いていくでしょう
