About this design

「お兄さんの手を描かせて欲しい」

アルブレヒトは17から18人兄弟で、3番目に生まれた次男なんだそうです。
一説にはあまり裕福ではない家だった為、子供たち全員を学校に行かす事は出来ず、次男であるアルブレヒトと長男はコイントスをして、どちらかが学校へ行き、もう一人は働いて学費を捻出し、学校を卒業したらそれぞれの役割を交代しようと言う賭けを行いました。
その賭けに勝ったアルブレヒトは芸術学校に通い猛勉強をして、賭けに負けた長男は危険な鉱山で働き学費を稼ぎました。

4年後に帰郷したアルブレヒトは、「アルブレヒトが立派な画家になります様に」と手を合わせて祈りを捧げるお兄さんの姿を目撃します。

4年間のきつい仕事でボロボロになったお兄さんの手は、関節が曲がり絵筆を持てる状態ではなかったのだそうです。
この手に感銘を受けて、アルブレヒトは涙を流して「お兄さんの手を描かせて欲しい」と懇願して描かれたのが「祈る手」の作品なのだそうです。
