雄鶏の頭は予見の能力、二本の蛇の足は精神と理性、盾は智恵、振り上げた鞭は力をそれぞれ象徴しています。
グノーシスとは知識を意味するギリシャ語です。その後の宗教、神秘主義に多大な影響を与えました。
