または、性的に乱れている宴会のこと。
「酒池」は酒で満たした池のこと。
「肉林」は林の木々に肉を吊るしたもの。
殷の暴君紂王が、酒池と肉林を用意してその中を裸にした男女に追いかけ回らせるという宴会を、昼も夜もなく何日にもわたって開いたという故事から。
「肉林」の”肉”という字には文字通り”肉”の意味しかなく、原文では酒池肉林の後に「男女を裸にして追いかけ回らせる」という意味の文があるため、酒池肉林という言葉自体には「性的に乱れている宴会」という意味は含まれておらず、そのような意味での用い方は本来は誤用である。
