About this design

江戸前寿司には大きく分けて二つ、回らない寿司と回る寿司がある。
回らない寿司には、下駄と呼ばれる板の上に置かれる寿司と、パックに入っている寿司がある。パック寿司のほとんどに入っているビニールの草がバランだ。
プラスチックのバランは、ユリ科バラン属の常緑多年草を寿司職人が包丁で装飾を施したものからきている。このバランがあるだけで周辺のものが「寿司化」することに気が付いた。
このケースにものを入れると寿司っぽくなる。
