能　養老／ようろう　〈小書・薬水／やくすい〉

雄略天皇（ゆうりゃくてんのう）は、うわさの若返りの滝について調査するよう、勅使（ちょくし＝使者）をつかわします。
その地できこりの父子に出会った勅使は、滝が「養老」と名づけられた理由をたずねます。
きこりは、滝が流れ落ちる泉の水をのむと、老いが養われた、つまり若返ったことから、養老と名づけたのだと話します。

歩き、とうとうたどり着いた養老の滝の清廉さ、豊かさに感激する勅使。
すると不意に天が輝き、音楽が聞こえて、花が降ってくるという奇跡が。さらに姿をあらわしたのは山の神でした。
山の神は太平の世をたたえ、ことほぐと、舞を舞い空へ帰っていきました。

若返りをのぞむのは、むかしから人間の変わらない性質のようです。現代はアンチエイジングと称したさまざまな薬水が人間を若返らせています…？
小書（こがき＝特殊演出）・薬水では、間狂言（あいきょうげん）で４人の白ひげお爺さんが登場。養老の滝の水をのむとみんな若返って黒ひげに！
