「うとう」と親鳥がよぶと、「やすかた」と子鳥が答える、という鳥・うとう。
猟師は、その習性を利用して、「うとう」と呼び、答えた子鳥をとらえていました。
　　　＊
しかし死んでから、その殺生の罪で猟師は地獄に落ちます。
猟師には妻と子どもがいて、そのために猟師をして生きるかてを得ていたのですが、もし、うとうのように、自分の子どもが捕らえられたらと思うとたまりません。
地獄に落ちてから猟師は、自分の子どもの尊さはうとうも同じだと気づきますが、時すでに遅し。

うとうは化鳥となり、鉄のくちばしをカチカチ鳴らしながら、猟師の目や肉体をつつき、切り裂きます。
猟師の罪は、生きるためだった。どうにもこうにも救われない曲。

哀しいので、うとうも人間もみんないっしょに平和な、うとう幼稚園に通うことにしました。子鳥をむかえにくる親鳥と並んで、猟師も妻とともに子どもをおむかえに。
現代の日常の景色が、とても尊く思えます。
