源義経（よしつね）と一行のみんなは、義経の兄の頼朝（よりとも）の疑いを晴らすために摂津国大物浦（だいもつのうら＝いまの兵庫県）へ向かいます。
愛する静御前との悲しい別れを経て、義経は船で出発します。

船出した一行でしたが、行く手には源平合戦で死んだ平知盛（たいらのとももり）の怨霊が現れます。
怨霊は、悪風を吹き付け、なぎなたで斬りかかり、一行を海へ沈めようとします。
みんなの意識は朦朧とし、もはやこれまでと思われたそのとき、義経はしっかと剣をかまえ、知盛と言葉を交わし戦います。
そこへ弁慶が祈り伏せ、とうとう知盛は波間へ消えていきました。

おごれる者も久しからず、ただ春の夜の夢のごとし。時代の波にのまれ、恨んで死んでいった知盛も、はかない一夜のクリスマスを楽しもう！　憎さは愛の裏返しと言いますが、怨霊は真にさびしくて襲ってくるのかもしれません。
