About this design

架空のゲーム会社「STMエンターテインメント」の企業ロゴをあしらったノベルティです。
STMエンターテインメントは1980年に福井県鯖江市にて創業しました。嘘ですけど。
当初、地場産業であるメガネのデザインを支援するコンピュータソフト「Eカンジ」を開発販売していたが、コンピュータ向けゲームに方針転換。
以後、富士通のFMシリーズ、シャープのX68000シリーズ、MSX、といった家庭用パソコン向けに、大ヒットはしないものの大外れ糞ゲーでもないという不思議な立ち位置でゲームをリリースし続け、古参のマニアに語り継がれる知る人ぞ知るゲームメーカーです。
家庭用パソコンでのゲーム市場が縮退すると、家庭用ゲーム開発にも乗り出し、バンダイのピピンアットマーク、サンヨーの3DOマシン、NECのPCFX、ワンダースワン、といった、いわゆる「負け組ハード」にばかりゲームを供給し続け、STMがゲームをリリースしたハードは負け確定などとも言われました。
SEGAサターンでリリースした育成シューティングゲーム「ダラスティアー」が思いの外売れたことで一瞬だけ覇権をとりかけるものの、その後、ソニーのPlayStationがリリースされて逆転され、「STM負け確伝説」の健在っぷりを見せつけました。
その後、家庭用ゲーム機からスマートフォンに軸足を移すも、相変わらず「負けないが勝てもしない」「永遠のベンチウォーマー」「ザ凡庸」などとファンに親しまれていましたが、2019年社長の引退とともに、ゲーム開発から撤退する旨をリリースしました。
ゲームメーカーとして代表作は無いものの、会社名の知名度は高いという不思議な立ち位置を活かし、自社のロゴやゲームIPを使用してアパレルや生活用品のキャラクターグッズを販売する方向で再スタートを切りました。
