About this design

現生ペンギンたちの中でも最大種の「アプテノディテス属」(キングペンギン属)は、エンペラーペンギン(コウテイペンギン)とキングペンギン(オウサマペンギン)の2種。
よくキングペンギンが「コウテイペンギンだ！」と間違えられるように、一見似ている2種ですが実はあやめとかきつばたのように違う部分が色々あります。そしてそのどちらも魅力的で素敵で選べない！(意訳)というのが「いずれ菖蒲か杜若」
そんな2種をあやめとかきつばたに例えて、エンペラーペンギンにあやめ柄の着物を、キングペンギンにかきつばた柄の着物を着せてみました。
2種しかいないので、それぞれおぼっちゃまとお嬢さまを連れてきてもらい、4羽並んでの着物ぺんぎんです。
おとなは姿かたちが似ていますが、ヒナは全く違う姿。でもどちらもとても愛らしいもふもふたちなのです。やはりどちらが良いか選べませんね。
