角大師って？
角大師は、昔の天台宗のお坊さんで、慈恵大師（十八代目の天台座主であり、正月三日に亡くなったので、元三大師ともいいます）が七十三才の時に、世の厄災をうれいてあらわされた護符です。
世に疫病が流行っていた永観２年（９９４）のある時ことです。疫病神が慈恵大師様にも襲ってきました。
「私は疫病神である。今天下に流行している疫病にあなたも罹らなければならないのでお体を侵しに参りました」
お大師様は「逃れられない因縁ならばいたしかたない。この指につけよ」と左の小指を差し出しました。
疫病神がお大師様の指に触れると、全身に激痛が走り、高熱を発せられました。しかしお大師様は精神を統一され、弾指し、法力をもって疫病神を退散させたのでした。
疫病の苦痛を体験されたお大師様は、「疫病をもたらす魔物の力はあなどりがたい。
わずか一指でさえ、これだけの苦痛をもたらす。疫病に苦しむ人々を一日も早く救わなければならない」と発心され、弟子に全身大の鏡を持ってくるように命じました。
そして、鏡の前で静かに観念三昧に入られました。
すると不思議なことに、鏡の様子は、はじめお大師様の姿であったのですが、だんだんと姿が変わり、最後には骨ばかりの恐ろしい鬼の姿になりました。
降魔となったお大師様の姿を弟子が描き写し、その絵を版木に彫りおこし、お札を刷って、お大師様自らが開眼の加持をされました。
「この札を人々に配布して戸口に貼り付けるようにすれば、邪魔は近づかず、疫病はもとより一切の厄災から逃れられるであろう」と弟子たちに示されました。
このお札頂いて、家の戸口に貼るとその家の者は誰も疫病にはかからず、また病気であった人も全快したと言います。
これ以来、元三大師ゆかりの寺院では、このお札を「角大師（つのだいし）」と称して、毎年の新年に新しいお札を玄関や家の戸口に貼ることで、病気はもとよりあらゆる厄災から逃れられる護符として人々に頒けられています。
